LETTER OF INTRODUCTION

ABOUT HEALTH MARKET INNOVATIONS PROJECT

For the attention of:

Individuals and Organizations working in the health sector in Vietnam

The Center for Creative Initiatives in Health and Population (CCIHP) is a NGO under Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA). CCIHP works in the health sector with the motto “Equality and health for all”, through a multi-disciplinary approach of action research, advocacy and intervention.

Currently, we are participating in the Center for Health Market Innovations (CHMI), a global network of partners that systematically identifies, documents, and analyzes market oriented health care programs, disseminates information about these models, and facilitates strategic linkages among entrepreneurs, funders, policymakers, and researchers. The objective is to increase access to information about market-oriented health care programs that effectively aid the delivery of health services, improve quality of care, and/or improve financial protection for the poor in low and middle income countries. The activities is being started in Vietnam, India and South Africa, using grant of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Rockefeller with the technical support of Results for Development (R4D).

The outputs of CHMI’s activities are to be publicly accessible through an interactive website, which will serve as an online searchable resource center regularly updated with new program data. The website, that is expected to go online by late-May 2010, will include, among other features, a comprehensive database of brief program profiles and in-depth case-studies categorized by thematic and geographic focus.

By providing and sharing data about relevant programs on the database, implementers are helping to build a robust database of health care financing and delivery models in the developing world. Meanwhile, CHMI will allow implementers to take advantage of the following features:

1. Showcase their program

2. Access a database of information on other implementers’ programs

3. Access donor profiles as well as donor interests/priorities

4. View trends within/across sector and regions

5. Participate in communities of practice

6. Link and network through events/virtual interactions.

In order to have a complete picture about health market innovations in Vietnam, we look forward to receiving the support and cooperation of individuals and organizations in sharing information about relevant interventions and programs that are implemented by your or other’s organizations.
