In reference to the agreement between CIHP and Youth House, CIHP will be the partner to take over the development of a series of interactive films for communication activities of a project conducted by Youth House on models of reproductive health care for adolescents and youth.
The activity is within the scope of the second phase of the project. The objective of the second phase aims to expand the intervention areas and continue to pilot models of behavior change, which were conducted in the first phase, in order to improve knowledge, attitude and skills of adolescents and youth on issues related to reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention.
In the first phase, adolescents, peer educators and communication experts, especially for consultants assigned by KFW (the project sponsor) evaluated that interactive films developed by the project played a role as an actively supportive and suitable tool for health communication and education activities in peer groups and clubs. However, such kind of films should have more of a sense of humor so as to attract more attention and the interest of adolescents and youth. In addition, they should also be dubbed with southern accents as northern ones in the first phase in order to be culturally appropriate to the audience in the Southern regions.
With seven episodes and one instruction clip, the series of films in the first phase focused on the following topics: unwanted pregnancy, safe abortion, male masturbation, sexual tract transmitted diseases, sex before marriage, reproductive tract infections and watching sex films amongst the youth
In order to support peer educators to implement communication and educational activities, in the second phase interactive films will be developed with other hot topics about reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention such as: living together before marriage, risks and sexual injured behaviors/harassments against high school pupils; violence in love relation and gender issue/involvement of men or women in issues related to reproductive health; friendship and love relation among pupils; stigma and discrimination towards people living with HIV/AIDS.
At present, CIHP’s members and its collaborators have been dynamically developing scenarios and implementing other relevant activities. In this period, adolescents and youth – targeted groups of those films- will have chances to actively participate at the beginning of the process. This will ensure the films are realistic and successful.
What is an interactive film ?
An interactive film is a supportive tool for activities focused at creating behavior change communication, and can be used by groups or by inviduals to help audiences to firstly identify problems. This then leads to people analysing and understanding their own knowledge, attitude and practices and then have dicussions to find out appropriate solutions for those problems.
Interactive film is used to open discussion about issuses related to reproductive health among adolescents and youth. The films show difficult situations to the audience about reproductive heatlh among adolescents and youth, and these situations are normally not standard behaviours and solutions in society. The effectiveness of education on these issues will be achieved only when adolescents and youth have the opportunity to participate in discussions under the instructions of facilitators or by studying on their own and answering questions with their own explanation. |
