In the free counseling, examining and distributing program held by the City Union and Emotional Ties Youth association under The Hanoi City Youth Unite Association, CHAT’ project partition – Youth confidence attracted young workers in Phu Thi industrial zone not only because of attractive colours and images but also because of the information about sensitive problems that everyone is concerned about such as psychology and reproductive and sexual health.

Bring a smile to young workers

Before the program was opened, “soul doctors’s counseling room” had paid the most attention to the appearance of “strange -looking” productions such as: foetus prevention medicine and sexual fidelity. Initially, perhaps a lots of people were “misled” by their curiosity. Then, however, the counselors’ enthusiasm and their own interest made this place become the center of everybody’s attention. Although the exhibition room is quite large, sometime, even if you are a member of the holding committee, it’s hard to find an empty space.

Even without comic sketches and short funny stories, the exhibition room was always a happy place with workers’ smiling when they discovered useful information about reproductive and sexual health. A lot of games such as: repartee singing, sexual organ shape making…made private problems easier to talk about and everyone became more open. As a result, it was fun for not only the people who were playing but also for the supervisors and counselors.

Of course the material value of each present was not high but the knowledge they learned would become the most valuable of their whole life. That was the biggest award CHAT- Youth confidence wanted to give to all the young workers, who worked at our property hourly and daily . Mr Tran Van Diem, got an award for “sexual inducements”, eagerly shared his thoughts when saying: “ As coming into this exhibition room, I was so attracted by games, decorative images and more. When I was at home before, I couldn’t imagine that I would feel so happy and comfortable. Moreover, it’s so useful”.

The counselors didn’t only provide basic information for people but also offered counseling immediately for everybody about friendship, love and sexual problems. Many more people attended than what the “soul engineers” had predicted, and clients were both young and old. Of course, some came to test the counselors and some came as they had heard about this service for a long time. However, whatever the reason was, the satisfaction was obvious on their face. They were satisfied by the counselors’ enthusiastic attitude and their difficult problems were solved. Mr Vo Van Hoang, a worker in Phu Thi industrial zone, after weighing up whether he should confide in a counselor or not, finally cheerfully said: “They are so professional”.

It’s not only for the youth

Being sophisticatedly decorated, the counseling room attracted not only young workers but also city union cadres, nurses and doctors in emotional ties team. Despite not being unfamiliar with condoms, sexual intrustment, exhibital productions made they feel unforeseen. With questions about green, luminous condom or sexual time longing condom and delightful enhance intrusment,…counselors had such as tired working spell when they tried to whole –heartedly explain fully provide information to clients being under holding committee.

According to the counselors, the topics in the productions were not known by Vietnamese people as people always avoid discussing sexual life problems. Although some productions have appeared on the market recently, some people do not pay attention, and therefore they remain ignorant. Therefore, that decoration was not to decorate and attract clients but also to provide information in order to help them know how to buy the most suitabe for their own in medicine store.

Despite the short length of the project CHAT – Youth confidence counselors gave workers in Phu Thi industrial zone a huge amount. They didn’t only give out useful information but also stopped people from feeling shy and enabled them to talk openly about reproductive and sexual health. People felt more confident to open up about sensitive topics and things that are usually very personal and hard to speak about to others.
